New film, “Home”, in competition at the16th Annual Dances with Films Festival.

The film HOME has its West Coast premiere tonight at the world famous Chinese Theaters in Hollywood. HOME will be in competition for both the Grand Jury Award for Feature Film and the Audience Award for Feature Film as part of the 16th Annual Dances with Films Festival. In addition to Dances With Films, HOME continues to screen at film festivals around the country, including the Albuquerque Film & Media Experience June 9, the New Jersey International Film Festival Summer 2013 June 14, the American Black Film Festival in Miami June 21st, and the Manhattan Film Festival on June 26.

HOME is the story of a man recovering from mental illness, who tries to rebuild his life and reconnect with his estranged son by accomplishing one primary goal: moving out of the group home where he resides and into an apartment of his own. It is a ubiquitous story about hope, redemption and moving forward in life that on some level everybody can relate to. It is a drama that involves a protagonist who is always facing conflict and who, at times, is against all odds. In the end, however, our hero accomplishes his goal and the audience is left feeling the thrill of that victory. With its primary characters living in and around the world of mental illness and recovery–a world not often seen in movies or on television–the world of home is a new and exciting place that audiences will want to visit.

The film stars Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, Savages, Edge of Darkness) as “Jack,” and features Tawny Cypress (World Trade Center, Autumn in New York, Heroes), Danny Hoch (The Thin Red Line, Bamboozled, Black Hawk Down), James McDaniel (Detroit 1-8-7, Malcolm X, NYPD Blue) Joe Morton (American Gangster, Stealth, Terminator 2) and KK Moggie (The Sleeping Dictionary, Mercy) among its talented cast.
